Lethal Intent by Cara Putman

There is so much to like in this book.  Brandon has a group home that works to keep sibling groups together.  It was enlightening to learn a bit more about that and some of the unique challenges and joys that go along with that.

Caroline is working with a scientific research company that is on the cutting edge of helping kids with leukemia.  Her boss is a little too enthusiastic in trying to push things forward and Caroline is often left pulling back on the reins to get him to slow down and do things right.

As Caroline seeks to understand how this treatment works, things turn sinister.  There’s a lot of suspense as she tries to figure out what  someone is desperately trying to keep secret. It’s a fascinating book with a good balance.  It never feels bogged down with scientific information but gives you a good sense of what is happening.  I enjoyed it.

Flight Risk by Cara Putman

I enjoyed this fast-paced suspenseful novel with a touch of legal thriller to it. Savannah is an attorney who is still recovering from her husband’s betrayal.  But when a reporter, Jett, accuses him in print of being part of a sex-trafficking ring, she can’t believe it.  Things start spiraling out of control and Savannah finds herself working with Jett to figure out the truth.   It’s an unlikely pairing but they come to appreciate each other.

There were a few spots where the villain’s mindset came through.  It felt to me that there should have been a lot more of this if it was going to be included.  It sometimes switched perspectives abruptly.

The parts of the book that dealt with Savannah’s case were a little slower but I think that adds to the feel of the laboriousness of the task of wading through documents.  So I didn’t really mind that.

I enjoyed the action, the suspense, the twists and urgency.  It was a good read.  Thank you to Thomas Nelson for providing me with a free e-copy of this book.  All opinions are my own.

Delayed Justice by Cara Putman

Jaime Nichols has been living for years with a secret.  She decides she’s finally strong enough to deal with it and plans to expose her uncle who molested her.   She doesn’t realize that he is up for a promotion in the military and will stop at nothing to end her quest for justice.

This book felt very relevant in this age where more “secrets” are coming to light.  It showed the very harsh reality of what it would be like to come forward and endure the intense scrutiny and the questioning…not to mention having to relive every hurtful moment.  I felt that Putman dealt with these issues well…not glossing over the difficulty but instead holding out compassion and hope.

I appreciated Chandler Bolton and his dog, Aslan.  Chandler has his own demons but that makes him all the more understanding and willing to embrace the complexity of a person like Jaime.  He is patient and provides a haven of safety for Jaime that is really special.

Imperfect Justice by Cara Putman

Imperfect Justice by [Putman, Cara C.]

This book deals with really tough issues like custody battles, stalkers, and domestic abuse. It was very disturbing and I longed to see things come out right for the hurting and abused.

Emilie longs to make a difference by helping women get out of abusive relationships. When a client comes to a bad end, she feels she failed and is determined to do what she can to make things right for the innocent left behind.

I loved Emilie’s passion and felt she was very relatable. She questions her purposes and her work when things go wrong. She has her own past issues to deal with. She’s likeable and someone I’d want to have on my side if I were in trouble.

I enjoyed trying to figure out some of the mysteries in the book. It was a fast read because I had to get to the end. There was a sense of suspense and urgency that I found riveting. I’d recommend this book to all mystery lovers.

Beyond Justice by Cara C. Putman

Product Details

Hayden longs to make a difference as a lawyer. When an immigrant woman’s son is murdered while in a U.S. detention facility, Hayden knows this is what she was meant to do. This woman needs a skilled advocate who knows how the U.S. system works. At first Hayden seems a little uptight. She would look at trial notes as a way to celebrate winning a case. However, just when she gets to know her roommate’s cousin, Andrew, and starts living a little, things become dangerous. Bad things start happening. Are they connected to her case?

I found myself relating more to Hayden’s roommate, Emilie, than to her. I hope Emilie will be featured in an upcoming book. She lives life “at full volume.”   Andrew was an interesting character as well. He’s a senator’s son with a secret passion who also wants to make a difference by helping immigrant children.

I enjoyed the story line more than the characters.  There was lots of action and suspense which I liked. There wasn’t too much legalese to bog things down.   It was my first book by this author and I would recommend giving it a try.
